We live in a spacious, cheerful, open loft apartment in New York City in a small building on a quiet block of a bustling neighborhood very near a number of parks, excellent playgrounds, and a huge year-round farmers’ market. We have lots of neighbors with small children and have frequent playdates and pizza/popcorn/dance parties for the grownups and kids. During our free time we love to wander about in the city with Sebastian, listen to the amazing street musicians, try out new restaurants and explore museums and galleries.
Our country house on the Connecticut shore is historic and character-filled, with gardens for planting and enjoying meals outside and lots of grass and space to run and play. There are nature trails all around us and our neighbors have a horse farm, so we get to enjoy feeding the horses and the occasional ride. Nicola’s mother “Mimi” is just down the road and we see her all the time. She loves to bake with Sebbie and surprise him (“guess which hand?”) with unusual treats.
In the winter we come up to make snowmen and spend cozy evenings by the fireside. During the summer months we decamp to the countryside (Jonathan works from home and Nicola is off for the summer) and spend long days at the beach with friends and family.
These two very different living environments provide a child with the best of both worlds. Our homes are filled with toys, art, good food, laughter, and music.
